For the galleries that attend and the artists whose works they bring, it’s a prime opportunity to connect with peers, gain exposure and hopefully make a few sales to buyers old and new. For the public, it’s a convenient, one-stop tour through the art scene with works that run the gamut of styles, periods and price points. Browsing is encouraged, buying even more so.

Papier13: Local Matters

Papier 13 Art Fair proceeded to hold a sixth annual installment in the city of Montreal, this year between 26–28 April. While its tradition continued in exclusively showing paper-based art works, the fair tent noticeably grew in size to occupy 15,000 square feet – a much larger surface than in previous editions – to accommodate a greater number of galleries as well as more spacious lecture and lounge areas.

Why you shouldn't miss Papier

This year, Foire Papier celebrates its sixth anniversary. As usual, the annual event brings together works on the humblest of media together for a free exhibit downtown, but this round the show has substantially broadened its horizons to better represent what’s happening in Canadian contemporary art today, with over 400 artists’ work crammed into the 15,000 foot display space in the Quartier des Spectacles.

Le pari gagné de Papier

Papier13: great ideas on paper, more exhibition space, more participants

Next week’s Papier 13 art fair of works on paper will have more booths, more galleries from outside Quebec and a bigger tent to accommodate them in a new location at Ste. Catherine and Bleury Sts. Papier 13 opens Thursday and continues to April 28. Its new home is a 15,000-square-foot tent, which is 50 per cent larger than last year’s venue, said Simone Rochon, spokesperson for the Contemporary Art Galleries Association, which organizes the annual event.

La collection d'Alexandre Taillefer

J’ai assisté mardi soir au University Club de Montréal à ce qu’ils appellent « le dîner des arts » dont les invités étaient les collectionneurs d’art Alexandre Taillefer et Debbie Zakaib. Vous avez peut-être lu des portraits d’eux dans les journaux, entendu parlé d’Alexandre Taillefer dans les médias. Il a largement contribué au sauvetage de l’Opéra de Montréal, il dirige le conseil d’administration du Musée d’art contemporain, le comité d’art public de la ville, bref il s’investit monétairement et en temps dans tout ce qui au final contribue au mieux être de la culture et de l’ensemble de la société.
